Soft Tissue Graft

A soft tissue graft is used to protect your teeth from gum recession in a particular area. Minor gum recession can usually be treated with fewer changes to your oral hygiene routine to make your teeth and gums healthy. When gingiva recedes further, it causes a greater risk of infection and bacterial penetration. Receding of gums leads to sensitivity in your teeth especially while eating hot and cold food. The root becomes vulnerable to bacteria and plaque because root is softer than the enamel.

In order to repair damage and prevent further problems, a soft tissue graft is performed. It is done either by extracting soft tissue from the roof of the mouth, or repositioning healthy gum tissue from the neighboring teeth.
